I'm just having some trouble finding a cheap blower motor for my '84 533i....The cheapest i can find is at rockauto.com for $119.00......I guess i would settle for a good used one but can't find one of those either.....Can anyone point me in a different direction...please..... thanx ahead of time!!!

Actually, that's a great price IF it's a good unit with the fan cage wheels. I'd avoid trying just a motor with shafts only, the plastic wheels get very brittle and can break during exchange..........Another problem is balance which can cause vibration and noise.

I've seen them on eBay for $20. I just checked, and there aren't any on there right now, but keep looking: they'll show up!

Hi BimmerGurl:

I have been reading this post, and following your BMW "Blower Motor" problem along, and Jefferyb4me gave you some excellent information and advice about it, and if I was you I would follow his advice all the way. I did on my BMW and saved lots of $$$$, over the past six months here at the forum by taking his professional BMW advice.

Now I do not know if you know this or not, but Jeff aka Jefferyb4me, is a excellent BMW mechanic/tech and BMW owner, who one can trust, and he knows our Bimmer's like the back on his hand! I know the price you was quoted for this BMW blower motor seemed a little high $$$, and it is for some, but remember you are not in that league, you own a nice BMW, not a Honda automobile.

BimmerGurl: I wish you the best in getting you blower motor repaired in a timely matter! I would try first a local import shop who specializes in BMW's automobiles (5 series?), in your community, and then I would get a written quote on a new BMW Blower motor, and with them installing it, and also give you some kind of warranty with it, (if I don't know the shops in my area, I personally always get three written estimates on most BMW work I am to have done, and then I decide who will get my BMW business $$$).

In conclusion...A word to the wise: Do not settle for no used "Electric Blower Motor", or buy one off eBay ("Electric Blower Motor") or anything, especially an electrical item for your bimmer, unless you know who you are buying the BMW part from, and run a eBay background check on that eBay seller, but then it is still risky to a certain degree, and personally I would not buy your BMW blower Motor off eBay! :screwy:

Now eBay has some good things they sale, I suppose, but to me the eBay auctions is like going to Vegas, because you are more less "Rolling The Dice" taking a chance in hopes of a big win $$$, but . . .

Sincerely,

Presley 348 :smokin:

Alright that motor didn't have the wheels on it so I order one off rock auto with the wheels bosch brand for 175.00 alot higher then I wanted but I'm cold and every where else I look is close to 200.00. Now the major problem is, is that my boyfriend and I are going to install it. I have a bently manual for my car and have read how to install it many times, my boyfriend is also a mechanic but has never worked on a bmw before I got mine. so I'm a little nervous about the installation if you have any pointers before I start in on this project I would appreciate it! thank you for your time and help. If there any pointers from anyone else I would appreciate them too!!!!!

I've haven't read a Bently manual in a while but it should be fairly good instruction. Once you have the cowl panel off use care with the blower wheel covers [plastic] and note how and where they came out. next carefully note the blower's orientation in the housing - draw a quick pic. if needed....it MUST seat properly in the housing for it's retaining strap to lock properly...I've seen them [the motors] installed BACKWARDS....just care 'rolling the blower unit out of it's housing and the engine compartment.......take your time noting how it came out, the replacement MUST go in the same way w/o damaging the wheels and mst 'SEAT' into the blower housing. after installing the clip strap, give the wheels a spin to check for any binding, DO THE SAME afetr installing the wheel covers AND run the blower at all speeds to be sure there's no noise [abnormal noise] before reinstalling the cowl cover.

Above all HAVE FUN thinking what your saving instead of paying someone like me to do the work.

BEst to you & stay in touch.

I called to tell rockauto what happened and they told me i had to get the part # off the one in my car so I cant use the fan at all anymore! lol its below zero where i live and im startin to get really cold driving a block away! :) thank you again for all your help!
