Does anyone know how to repair the plastic bumpers on the 4Runners.
I have a gouge ( 1/8 in W X 3/4 in L)in the front bumper of my Silver 2003.

Clean it out well, dry-no grease or water, roughen the surface if you can, and use paintable external window caulk. Level and smooth and let sit for a week. Paint to match.

If you want to fix that bumper right so it will last and not bubble up later do this. Clean w/ soap and water. Clean w/ isopropyl alcohol if poss. Rough up with 80-100 grit sand paper. Round off any sharp edges of the gouge or it will show through later. A nice gradual U shape is ideal. Pass a butane torch QUICKLY over the bare plastic. Do not heat or melt, you're just burning away the oxygen on the surface. Fill with a flexible autobody glaze. You can buy Evercoat flexible filler at any auto paint store. Or you can fill with 3M EZ sand flexible filler #5887 also available at a paint store. This might require a special dispensing gun. Any filler you use should be mixed with a hardener, NO air dry products. They will shrink later.Prime with a flexible automotive primer. Spray cans are available from Crest, Urethane Supply Co., SEM. and others. Or take it to an I-CAR member bodyshop.

Thanks for the info Brian and Six43.
I have a body shop supply store close by that should have these items you have mentioned.

Sorry if my input wasn't technically correct. I am not that fussy about appearances on bumpers. :)

I have a huge star in my plastic. I think it was from the chunk of snow falling off of a semi I was following. Should I glue it back? None of the plastic is actually gone, its just cracked. Any help is appreciated.
