I got a 03 Astro cargo van from carmax with 34,000 mile on it and 2 days later the differential went out. It's still under factory warranty so carmax sent it to the Chavy dealer and they are rebuilding it. I had a hard time finding a cargo van with low miles and had to pay Carmax to have it shipped out from South Carlolina. Do Astro Vans have weak rearend, I've owned alot cars and trucks and have never had a differential break before. The Van is super clean, there are no scratches in the cargo area or anywhere else it looks brandnew not 2 years old. Besides the problems I really like it except I think it has the uglyest steering wheel I've seen on a car since the 60s.

I'm driving a 1993 with 120,000 hard Alaska miles on it. It was used to haul freight around up and down hills and through stuff you wouldn't believe for 90,000 of those miles. It is now retired and I drive it too and from work. No, I would say the Astro's backside is one of the best. You may have lost a seal or something and ran it dry. The new one should treat you well.

I just bought a used '02 Astro with 56K miles, and before I picked it up the owners had replaced the front seal in the differential, as it was leaking. They claim it wasn't run dry, but maybe that happened to yours. Hope mine is OK.

Car max sent my Van to the Chevy dealer as it was still under waranty and they totally rebuilt it, took them 11 days to get all the parts. I've been driving it for the last week at work put about 500 miles on it and no problems. It's much quieter then before, I thought it was loud cause of the cargo area was making it seem louder. I don't know if it was low on lube or not you think someone would have check it, but I think somewhere along the line it was run dry or else something came loose. I'm just glad it's fixed, it's very hard to find used cargo vans with low mileage most of the ones I's find on the wed would have 90,000 miles or more evenen if they were only 3 or 4 years old.
