My 94 maxima starts up fine. Idles perfectly. But whne it comes to driving, it doesn't go over 2000 RPM. When you hit the gas, the needle drops low then starts moving up. When it reaches 2000 RPM, the needle will dance and will not go over 2000. I changed the O2 sensor and had a pipe test. A mechanic's saying air flow sensor. Another says Something like Throttle Body Sensor. The mechanics are puzzled becasue It starts and idle fine, but it won't go over 2000 RPM.
If anybody had had this problem or knows how to fix it, I would appreciate if they would reply.

Your transmission may be blown.

when my mass airflow sensor blew the engine wouldn't rev over 2500 rpm. it would just surge around that rpm, sounds like what's happening to you.

When some crucial sensor input to ECU is missing, it drops to 'safe mode' and will not allow rpm above 2000. MAF is the main suspect, O2 u changed already. MAF can be tested with dmm.

Time to test all sensors, wirings, connectors, groundings --->Look what I did on my floating computer center =maxima. There's also link to online manual, THE 'Crap-ton's'.

Thanks a lot Nahkapohjola, your site gave me ideas on the TPS and Air flow sensors. My problem seems to be similar with the MAF. I took it to a japanese auto parts store and the worker there visibly saw the 2 fillaments on the MAF sensor in good condition. Is there any way to test this sensor? I would appreciate it.

PROBLEM SOLVED! Air FLow Sensor! Thanks alot guys. And Thank you very much Nahkapohjola. I went down and tried both TPS and MAF. Ends up being the MAF sensor. I was suprised he let me try them before I bought it. Again Thanks alot.

Just a note:Nissan ECM's donot have a failsafe mode that limits drivability.Transmission control units yes, but engine ECM's no.
