i have a 1990 accord, and the headlights and taillights are always on. when the car is normaally running the dash lights are not on, but as soon as i goto turn on the headlights they come on (like they should). and there is no change in taillights/headlights.

also, the brake light is on in the dash. but the brake lights work perfect. i dont know if the two problems are related, but does anyone have a fix for this??

Brake light on the dash is saying that you have a problem with your brakes...most likely the pads are getting low or the fluid is getting low, or your e-brake is up...it doesn't mean that your brake light on the rear of the car is on.

As far as the other problem...it sounds like some kind of short or electrical wiring problem...I honestly don't know, but hopefully someone else will.

When you say the lights are "always" on, I assume you don't mean when the car is off and parked? If so, I wouldn't give your battery long for this world :)

So, they come on when you turn on the ignition?

Some previous owner has done a kludge job (a low-tech version of daylight running lights like most new cars have). The only solution is an investigation to find what he (maybe she, but probably not) did, and undo it.

Hardly. If there were a short, the lights would likely be on ALL the time and your battery would die. An ACCIDENTAL short to the ignition-controlled side is HIGHLY inlikely IMHO.

You're SURE the parking lights (front and rear) are on with the ignition (but NOT the light switch) on?

You are aware that there are 4 settings for the lights right? Off, Parking lights, Low beams, and High beams. The first 3 work by turning the light switch, and high beams turn on when you pull the switch arm back towards you. As for the brake light being on I had a simialr problem, turns out the trunk/light assembly gaskets leak pretty easily over time. So its possible that you have moisture in the light housing screwing stuff up. Look for spots of rust on the inside of your trunk like on the lip and around the lights, or for wet spots inside your trunk after its rained.

I have a 1990 Accord since new and the lights have always stayed on. I'm from Canada and that was when day-time running lights were mandatory for new cars. I think that this was Honda's first attempt at it.

I've been looking for a reason that my right brake light isn't working but my left one is. All the bulbs are ok. The parcel deck brake light is also not working and the bulb is ok in there too.
