OK its a 2001 Tundra V8 it just started recently. When i would come to a stop the trans would drop into nuetral and when i would pull away. Well the trans would bang into drive, the tires chirp and its really a mess.

It only hapens once a week and usually when it's cold.

Any thoughts?

Best get it to a reputable (if possible) shop quick! I'm having to drop 2800.00 in a rebuild now, so don't wait! Mine was doing the same thing. Especially when I was hauling some weight. It was bumping when I went into O/Drive next, then it would stall at stop signs (Locking up).

they told me my "planets are gone" & it's a one piece construction w/ transfer case so will have to rebuild all of it.

The quotes I got were all between $2200 to $3600 w/ the low bid from someone who's never done a Toyota. (These quotes from E. TN)

BTW, also a 2001 V8 4x4 Tundra.

G/Luck!

Hmmm. Well i only have 33k on it and i think its a 6 Year warrenty on powertrain so im gonna wait till it gets worse. If i bring it to toyota they will probably say that it didn't happen to them.

I bought a 2002 Toyota Tundra SR5 iForceV8. After about 50,000 miles, I noticed there may have been a problem with the transmission. This was noticeable when using the overdrive as it would jerk a bit during start from a complete stop and sometimes when driving. Without the overdrive, it was okay. At about 66,000 miles I've experienced hard shifting on a few occassions. Then at 67,000 miles, it died on the road. The tow truck driver told me he towed many tundras with the same problem. He said that it was the sensor and it should be cheap to fix. But when I got to a local Toyota dealer, they said it is failure of the transmission and would cost $3800 to fix. Didn't buy extended warrenty. I towed it to a place that specializes in transmission and said the same thing and would cost $2200. The 3rd place finally charge me $1300 to repair it. Said it was the transmission - overdrive part of it. Read websites with ratings that said many of them only require minor repairs. So is it just the sensor or really the transmission???? ... Over problems I have include squeaking S-belts and squeaking in the seat belt area. Also, a rubber piece on the top of the truck is about to come off. ... My dad was a mechanic and always loved Toyota. What happen??????????
