After Crank Walk.

Sorry if this is already covered, I did not find it. I have a 96 Eclipse GST, It looks as though I had the dreaded crank walk, but it was my fault, after a motor rebuild I had an oil leak and I let the oil get to low. While going down the freeway I heard a knock and the car died. I looked in to it and the bolt on the end of the crank was loose and the crank sensor was broken. I replaced the crank sensor and started the car it knocks really bad in the bottom end. I took off the oil pan, checked main and rod bearings, and I did not see anything out of the ordinary except I had a little bit of excess wear on a couple of the main bearings, the crank looks fine. My only thought was to replace the bearings and hope for the best. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

IF the motor only walked beacause of low oil replacing the bearings might work. But if the crank was damaged by the thrust bearing, or there is any damage to the rod ends or crank journals, you are wasting your time. I've tried this before, and it didnt work. But a set of bearings is only about 60 bucks. If its something you can do easily enough, it may be worth a shot. Sounds likes its within your range of skills. The other more expensive options are to find a good 7 bolt, or take it a step further and do the 6 bolt swap and deal with its drawbacks (RM CELs, etc).
