1999 323i first take off problems

In the morning when I get in my car and get ready to take off my car seems like it hardly wants to go. I give it gas the RPMs go up but the car will barly start to go. I let off the gas and then reapply the gas it will then take off fine. After the car has been run it will take off fine. It usually happens after the car has been sitting form some time I guess when the car is cold. Dose anyone have any information. I'm going to try the fuel filter this afternoon. I need some help. I just got my car back on the road. I had a cracked head had to get it welded and put back on. I was lucky that my dad helped me with this.

I was told that when this happened to my car, that it was built to have a "warming up" period. I will not push it (it goes only in first gear) for a few blocks, then it is fine.
