well i have a 97 2.2 auto cav with about 150,000 miles. i have been having a problem with it stalling in traffic and losing acceleration. i am a shadetree mechanic so i replaced plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, pcv, did the fuel treatment thing. then i gave up. took it to a shop they cleaned the throttle body but still same problem. well then i found this forum. i took of my iac valve and sprayed about a whole can of carb cleaner in there, it was pretty black and gummy. while i had it off i took of my egr valve also and did the same. i drove my car for about 45 minutes with no problems. its been idling outside now for another 30 or so. i think i fixed the problem thanks to all the help on here. and it was so easy and cheap. i even checked a price for a new iac. only $65. well ill keep this updated as for now im off for a drive. also i noticed i idle much smoother and teh engine is much quiter, or maybe im just crazy!! lol

well after all that i found out the fuel pump was bad. i had a shop check the voltage going into the pump assembly and it was constant. but the flow coming out was very irregular. we hooked the gauge up just before teh fuel filter so it wasnt an injector or line problem so since i replaced teh pump i have driven about 200 mles with no problems and i even noticed i got better mileage.
well my car is fixed i wish everyone else teh same luck

WOW...sounds like the same problem I just posted about. Did you find that your car would start right back up? Did you also find it to lose power even if you were going 40 mph or so. ???
This has been happening to me for weeks now intermittently. No one can diagnose me. :( It will be fine for two weeks or so and then happen again frequently. Then it's fine...and then it starts acting up again. WEIRD. Let me know if it sounds the same. Thanks for your original post...it's nice to see that I am not the only one with this problem.
