Rear brake problem on 2002

Hi,

My Passat just failed inspection because the rear brakes were too worn. SInce PA charges for full reinspection if you leave the shop for repairs, I had the small place I was at do the work (not a dealer). Unfortunately after I drove away, I noticed a burning smell from one of the rear wheels. Apparently the caliper was stuck. I went back to the shop and they said that because the old pad was so worn, that this caused the caliper to stick. After looking at it they said the sticking problem seemed to free itself up. But when I got home, the rotor was hot again. They also used Raybestot pads, not OEM.

However, the pad was not so worn as to damage the rotor. I had no problems before this pad replacement. I read on other posts that a special tool is needed to push back the piston (which turns it?). I'm think maybe they just used brute force to do it. They told me it was hard to push it back.


Could they have damaged the caliper ? Does anyone have any experience with this?
