HELP!!! '94 Shifting Problems

I recently bought a used 5 speed LX 4x4 Passport with about 140k miles on it. I drove it for a couple of days and then one day when I tried to drive somewhere I was unable to get it into gear. I could force it into reverse but nothing else. I can shift if the engine is not running and can drive in whatever gear the car is in when I turn on the engine. I've also notice that the clutch is much tighter than before the problems. Anyone know what the deal is?

Is it a hydraulic clutch? Have someone depress the pedal, as you lay under the vehicle. Watch the side of the tranny and see if the fork arm is moving.

This really sounds like a cluch/linkage problem. If you can verify things on the outside seem to be moving ok (albeit I know you said the pedal is 'hard'), then you could have a siezed fork pin or broken parts preventing the pressure plate from compressing all the way.

If you know that all gears work (by starting the truck in each one), then the tranny is still good.

Sounds like a bad clutch slave cylinder.
