2003 cavalier won't start

The check engine light has been on on my car for a while now and I hadn't done anything because I checked all the basic things on my car and it seemed to be doing fine. Today I drove home from work and I stopped at my mailbox and got out of my car and when I got back in it it wouldn't start. I tried jump starting it, but it dosen't appear to be the battery as the lights and my cd player seem to be working fine. When I turn the key it just makes a repetitive clicking sound and won't even try to turn over. Please help! :confused:
