iv a 93 s10........4x4 with 145k.
im hearing a low groan at speeds 30-50...then it goes away...
iv had this sound on another high millage car and it was the wheel bearings..........
i was wondering if anyone else had this problem...and at what mileage.
also about how much did it cost in a 4x4 s10?

It's best to just re-pack them whenever you do the brakes. Use the proper grease and it'll last for a long while.
If you drive through really dusty roads, or flooded area's you should re-pack them more often.
And everyone in California that's driving through those 18" deep puddles should get theirs done as soon as it dries up there

Could be the bearings being bad or the front differential needs a oil change.

I've had the sound too for about a year and a half, and I'm pretty sure it's bearings. It's just not bad enough that I'd do anything about it.

to change the bearings....is it harder or more $$ because its a 4x4....do you need to do anythin else beside the bearings?

You can't just replace the bearings, you have to replace the whole hub.

The signs of a wheel bearing problem are:
Noise from the affected side
Vibration
While turning in one direction it gets worse, when turning the other direction it goes away.(unless they are both going out)
It should be about $80
