I have looked on the net for the answer to this question and can't find it so here it is. In the 83 Camaro Z28's did they have fuel injection? I am looking at buy a 83 but it has a 650cfm carb, so I am wondering what they might of done with the fuel injection. Thanks

i'm not sure, but they may have used the cross-fire injection in 83.

Had a friend with an 82 that had the cross-fire injection. Don't know about 83.

82 and 83 both had crossfire injection, (engine code uhh.. LU5 I believe?
But in both years, also used a 4 barrel carb, so it may have been either..

Is that crossfire unit any good ? is it similar to TPI or just a ghettofied version ?

My buddy had a lot of problems with his. When it ran it ran well, but his mechanic LOVED him. I don't remember what all happened (we're talking over 15 years ago), but I do remember it was related to the injection system. Course.. he was an idiot, all of his problems may have been his own fault.

Is that crossfire unit any good ? is it similar to TPI or just a ghettofied version ?Crossfire is basically your average throttle body injection unit. It uses dual rochester injectors units mounted on a cross styled intake manifold thus the name and while it was a stepping stone into the injection units we use today.. IMO its a very limited system and the use of TPI on same engine saw big jumps in power the 84 Vette which was crossfire unit went from 205 Horsepower to a 230 rating in 85 with just the change to TPI. It also saw a 11 percent increase in gas mileage. Its not really a undependable system but it lacks perfomance potentional IMO(although Geno is building a pretty bad ass TBI, So I could be wrong).

the tbi is an easy swap. i need to dyno mine to see what kind of power im pushing. when my buddy had the engine that i put into my RS, he put his camaro on the dyno and it made 307 rwhp. i threw a new cam in and a holley tbi unit, not to mention the headers i got from jegs. if you have a tbi 3rd gen, you own a car that has plenty of potential. you will just need to find someone that can burn you a new chip to run it. id say if someone would play around with a cross-fire injected motor they might be able to make something of one......you never know til you try.

Very true anything is possible and I have seen some bad ass 3rd Gen that I have been told have TBI'. Like I said I could be wrong and Geno's car sounds like its going be pretty bad ass and I have yet to own a performance TBI car so just going by what I have read about TBI vs Multi port systems.

jegs has some tps calibraters that maximizes throttle response too. im thinking of getting one for mine. its already fast, but it wouldnt hurt to get a better response from it.

Hey, I'm all about every little bit helps. I here people say all the time why are you doing that it only adds 2-3 Horse's. Well you do 10 small mods and then your talking about maybe 30 + horsepower. Plus I use to use a volt meter to readjust the tps sensor in my TPI Vette's and it would make a huge difference acceleration wise.

I've owned 3 Vette's. All 4+3 TPI Z51's. My fastest was 420 wheel horsepower Black 86. They are sweet cars but not meant for everyday use. Like I was trying to get out of them. I hope to own another vette one day though.

If you find a local performance shop that dyno's you can usually ask when they have a dyno day. They usually have a special day either once a week/month whatever were they reduce the rates. You get a good deal and it should run around $65-75. depending on what area you live in.

i would like to warn any one that takes thier car in to have it dyno'ed. its been a year ago, i now this guy that has a 76 trans am. it HAD a 400 in it with a hurst 4 speed. he wanted to see what it had. so he took it in and they gutted his car on the dyno. the car was original, the motor had alot of mileage on it. they red lined the car and it threw 2 rods. and he signed a form saying that the shop wasnt liable for what happend on the dyno. he ended up paying for a new engine out of his pocket, but he moded the hell out of it and it has around 430 hp.
