ok i am looking for a civic and want to know what civic gen is best for getting parts for (aftermarket) also what is better as in modability (is that even a word  ) i am looking at a ody kit and engine mods.

the cars i am looking at are
1988 HONDA CIVIC , 4 dr, 4 cyl, auto, Red,air cared,good condition,ps,pb,local,no accid.. $1280.

and

1987 HONDA CIVIC , 4 dr, 4 cyl, 5 spd, 180000 kms Red,New timing belt,A/C,drives good,. $880.

if i do get either the a/c is coming out also i am also wanting a 5spd so the 88 is a bit lower on my list but there is more aftermarket (that i have found)

The '88 is a perfect choice due to it's sharp image styling and almost accord like personality. The engine is also fuel injected, 16 valve while the '87 is a carburated 12 valve. The '88 has double wishbone suspension (the first year that civic's ever had this awesome sports car like suspension) while the '87 has a solid axle in the back. The '88 is more closely related to the famous crx than the '84-'87 ever were so parts of them are great to find. The '88 also gives you more freedom in engine swaps since all 92-00 engines are just a direct bolt on, hint "SOHC VTEC Z6 or Y8" while the '87 can swap these engines but mounts have to be changed so does fuel injection and trannys, etc.

The best choice is the '88. There are over three times more parts for that model than the '87 model. Visit the 88-91 civic/crx forums. It'll tell you almost anything you heart could desire. and Good luck! :)
