OK, so I'm new here, but I need a little help. I have a 93 Subaru Legacy 2WD, ATM. I haven't had too many problems with it, but now I'm stuck.(literally). I had gone off to college, so my car had been sitting for about 3 months. I knew that it wasn't starting for awhile, but I thought it just needed a jump start. So today I jump started it and I left it running well over an hour or so. Then I went outside to move it up a little out of all the snow. I turned the car off and I tried to give it a start and it tried to turn over the first 2 or 3 trys, but then it just went to a clicking noise. I haven't checked if anything else is working besides the clock. So my battery hasn't been changed since I got it, but I'm thinking this is an alternator problem because it seems my battery never charged up. Now I don't want to go out and blow my money on a spankin new alternator because of other factors and I wanted to get a third opinion on this. I'm kinda of ruling out that it's a starter because it started right up with the jump start, but I could be wrong.

If you have a voltmeter or anything try measuring to see how much voltage your battery is getting. When the car is running it should be 12.6V or so. If you arnt getting very good voltage, then its probably your alternator.

Im sure you can bring it into a automotive place and they will test your battery for free.

Yea I was planning on going to get some new tires, so I was thinking about having them test the battery etc... and maybe a few other things. I just wanted to get an opinion about the situation. I think I have a volt-meter somewhere around here anyways. thanks.

Could be your battery cables became corroded while the car was sitting. They might just need cleaning and tightening. Hey! It's a cheap start. No pun intended.
