A couple of things. Trying to meet all of those requirements on a 4K budget will be tough, if not impossible. Modifications are hardly ever cheap, and to put them on a good power plant requires a large significant investment. Most Camaros look good, so that takes care of that. As for everything else you've put down, sounds like you're looking for a V8, either LT1 or LS1 (for good mod capabilities, quick, long lasting). Keeping that in mind, you're looking at about 9-10K initially in investment for an LT1 powered Camaro. I don't know about 3rd gens as much as I do about 4th. You could get a 3rd and modify that, but why not keep saving a little longer so that you're not getting beat by LS1's and new Cobras?

get a third gen 305 5speed. Easy to work with, more hp than than most 350s in third gens.

And i hate to be the one to tell you that - but watch out... you're only 16 and getting hold of such fast car (say what you want , but a V8 RWD car , no matter what it is , is too much for a young guy... i hated pepole who used to say such thing when i got my license , and i had a V8 then , so i shouldn't be the one to tell you that... but i participated in so many track events and other driving schools as much as i could... )

You better save up another 4 grand for insurance on that car since you're a new driver. Trust me. Mine is 800 for liability only on a 4 door Honda Accord. It would be a TON for a V8 Camaro.

Check over on cz28.com in the for sale section of the board. Best place to buy a used LT1 or LS1 from. See quite a few LT1s go for quite a bit less than 9 or 10k. More like 6k to 7k for a 93 - 94, maybe a 95 in that range too. You can also find a lot of already modded cars selling for good prices over there too. Like supercharged LT1s for 11k. Make sure you check there before you buy. Then again, I think a 3rd gen is the way to go here. I guarantee you could run right with LT1s and LS1s for under $2500 in modifications to a third gen.

You are going to think this is nuts!
When I was your age, I used to eat up study halls in school dreaming of all the neat cars I would buy or build. I circled all the items in car books that would make my car ( the one I would buy) so cool. I was too young to get a licence at 16. So I waited and dreamed.
I was too young at 18.
Now it's been over 40 years, I have owned or built over 200 vehicles. I'm glad I stayed in school and studied hard- a lot of what I learned I have used to build/ buy neat vehicles.
Here is a partial list of just the ones I built-
3 wheel trike with supercharged vw-different- I started a trike epidemic around here
3 wheel trike with Corvair, 140 hp midship thru reversed vw transaxle--very nasty-- California style with long chrome girder.
343 Javelin powered mid engine 62 Falcon -sleeper THIS ONE was SO COOL-you couldn't see it. Never lost a stoplight battle.
supercharged dunebuggy with gas heater-for winter use
40 Ford Pickup on S10 frame, 400 Chevy supercharged
vw offroad woods buggy, supercharged
Right now, we have a 1987 Camaro Z28, that 40 Ford pickup, a 73 Vette sting ray, a 69 Nova 427 and 2 other nice vehicles.
A fellow hot rodders advice------
You got lots of time- take it slowly.
Stay in school, study hard, get your college degree and keep dreaming.
But you won't listen to me- you 'll have to find out for yourself!

I'd have to agree. Go get something with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine and get some experiance behind the wheel first.

Fellas, chances are, since this was originally posted in March, this person already has their vehicle.
It's now October...
