350Z v. Lude

The race happened last weekend. For those of you who were wondering.

We were going down I-25 after we were just getting done with dropping off a car. On to the race we pulled up next to him and lined up going around 70. My dad down shifts to fourth and vtec engadges he could've went to third. We start pulling away very slowly until 100. We had about 2 1/2 cars on him. I think he was an auto because I didn't see his car jump. He was also stock. After we slow down he cuts us off cause he was mad. Also I was wandering what the hp and 1/4 mile times on the 350Z are.

notes: 97 Prelude with 3 people in the car beat a 350Z stock

350Z's have 287 horse I think, they would blow you away in any gear, He must have not tryed, or was an auto, Most likely both.

1/4 time doesnt matter when your already goin 70 and your dad most of all should have known not to "race" with other people in the car. Putting your life in danger and putting other peoples lives in danger is completely different, especially with his kid in the car.

1/4 does matter....if a car can get going fast in the 1.4, chances are it's not gonna just fall on it's face after that.

230hp (maybe) and 190 torque (maybe) can't hang with a 350z in any sort of race IMO

Yeah, the previous comments are true. I like Preludes, they are decently quick cars, but a very lightly modded one with 3 passengers isn't going to touch a 350Z, stock, auto, it doesn't matter. Especially on the highway, and especially going into 4th at 70mph where there would be plenty of 3rd left. Trust me, the Z will hit 150+ with little trouble. I would be surprized if you said you stayed within a couple bus lengths of one, let alone won the race. And I've owned a Honda, not hating, I like the car; I'm just pointing out that the guy obviously wasn't trying very hard. Maybe just getting his kicks for the night.

W3rd, them Z33's are damn quick on the highway.

I rode in my buddies stock 6 speed 350z and we walked all over a Eclipse GS-T with at least exhaust from 80-130mph. We ended up at least a bus length and a half ahead.

My friends 350Z spizzankled me all over the place(and I loved it), and considering the fact that i beat preludes by a very considerable amount...the guy def. was not seriously racing you. I'm thinkin he was just pissed that you floored it next to him or something. Not to offend you or anything, but really, even an auto would have spanked you if it were truly flooring it.

350Z runs about a 14.4 iirc.

I've beat 350zs, and I've lost to 350zs. Me VS. 350z = drivers race. And um...I snack on preludes. Just another person with a 15 second car thinking they can beat low 14 second cars. That doesn't at all sound like anyone else who posted in this thread. Cough.

if he was a serious and wanted to race u he would have made u look stupid..just think how much slower ur car is with 3 extra ppl in it.not to mention a 350z would win anyway

350Z's on average will run a 14.1-14.0 flat. however i've seen them run 13.7's twice. so it depends on what trim you get them in. the 350Z track model would be the fastest one with the 18 lb ray's wheels with wider foot prints, better tires, and a limited slip.

a prelude v-tec on average will take around 19 -19.4 seconds to 0-100mph. a Z on its worse day takes around 14.1-14.2 seconds. that is a life time difference man.

for the track models that hit 100mph in around 13 seconds. since those trap at around 102mph running 13.7's.

Well I dunno whether or not the author's car is modded, I do know that the engine in the Prelude is easy to modify though. That particular body style is really heavy though. I can't say that 350Z's are all that quick though, cause i've totally stomped 2 of them, and I do mean STOMPED. It would take a very well messaged Prelude to beat one though, they'd need to shave over a full second off their 1/4 mile. Of course this was from a roll, so i'd figure the prelude would need atleast some form of forced induction.

prelude takes mods okay for a honda.

stock they put down around 170whp with I/H/E they gain around 10whp-15whp tops. so thats 185whp total in a car that weights 3000 lbs. a Z stock whp ranges from 230-240whp in a car that weights 3200 stock.

not to mention he has 3 passengers. so an average person weights 150 lbs. so he has a handicap of 450lbs.

Yeah I've stompped Ludes before and its close enough to be a drivers race but against a 350Z.......I get my ass handed to me in style!

The 350Z would murder you, even with just you in the car. And from a roll, you can usually tell who's faster by looking at the trap speed....usually.

You didn't see him jump because he didn't floor it. Regardless if the car is a manual or an automatic the car will jump when it downshifts at WOT.

There isn't a Prelude made that with an intake, catback, header, and a stage 2 clutch that will beat a 350Z. Sorry, but your car will take a lot more work than that to be able to hang with, let alone beat, a 350Z.

And he said he had 2 and a half cars on him...to have 2 and a half cars on a low 14 second car you'd need to be running mid 13s or faster. I'd hate to be the one to break it to you...but...your car isn't running anywhere near 13s. You MIGHT be able to manage 16s with all those passengers and mid 15s to low by yourself.

Yes, anything can happen on the streets..perhaps the 350z guy started having a seizure and couldn't shift gears or something. But if it was driver error..this guy should be able to realize that he won only by driver error and he'd add "I won because he missed a gear/had a seizure/forgot he was racing me." and not act like he can beat 350zs. But, a 350z VS a loaded with people prelude..alot of shit would have to happen for him to win by 2 and a half car lengths.

I once beat a Ferrari 550 in my old Eagle Vision because the guy dropped something and had to pick it up. I knew I would lose but I wanted to race a Ferrari! He was going to go for it until he dropped something.

So, I won. However, let's be realistic.

I beat a Murcielago once too, I inched in front of him right before he hung a right turn, then I put like 788 feet on him, I dropped it one gear and put the full 1000 feet so I won and collected his bank. BOOYAAH.

Someone posted earlier in this thread asking if the lude had any mods, and I was stating that his mods were in his sig and arent nearly enough to support his 350z story.

As a Lude owner I'm going out on a limb here and I'm gonna give 97Lude the benefit of the doubt. He said the "race" started from a 70 mph roll, and his dad dropped into 4th. Since the 350z didn't jump but accelerated slowly, it seems possible the 350z didn't drop any gears and just floored it in 6th gear? If that's what he did it'll take at least a few seconds before he reaches his power band and starts pulling.

I don't think my Lude could beat a 350z by any stretch of imagination, but from a 70 mph roll it's possible that a Lude in 4th gear beats a 350z in 6th gear (at least to 100mph).

Also I forgot to note that the vtec head on my car was rebuilt. I was in shock to because I could not believe I won. If he was racing I won if he wasn't then I don't care.
