honking noise

anyone know what would make the loud honk noise upon initial startup in a 4.8 when its really really cold out?

yes, im aware horns honk

some bicycle bells are louder than some car horns (i.e. Schwinn vs. Honda)

I know exactally the noise you are talking about but alas, i have no idea what causes it. Just thought i woud let you know that you are not alone lol. If i remember correctly my 96 sierra with the 5.7 in it made the same noise.
