I just purchased my first Jeep and drove it 55 miles before it stalled along side of the road not once but five times in 25 miles. Last time it would not start so had to call a tow truck. No engine lights came on it just stopped running and I would pull over to the side of the road wait about five minutes start it and it would run again for a few miles same thing over again. Anyway local 76 station did a check on it and said it checked out ok. Has anyone else ever had this problem if so fill me in on what to do...

HI, AFTER THEY CHECKED IT OUT DID IT START AND WERE YOU ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME? IF SO HAVE YOU TRYED TO START IT SINCE. YOU MAY HAVE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION GOING BAD. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON JEEPS. ANY OTHER INFO SINCE THEY CHECKED IT OUT WILL BE HELPFUL QUESTIONS JUST HOLLER DALE [email protected]

Yes, my son drove it home. About 10 miles. It is actually his jeep. I just went out to start it and it started fine. 76 station thought maybe a starter sensor. they said the starter was going bad so we bought a new one and will put that and a new coil and see what happens. they was at a loss because they couldn't get it to stall while they were testing it. I will tell him what you said though. How do u check a crankshaft out?
Need A tow ?

HI, YEA THE SENSORS NEVER QUIT WHEN YOU'RE HAVING SOME ONE CHECKING IT OUT. THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR IS LOCATED ON THE BELLHOUSING. ITS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT QUIT WORKING ANYWHERE ANYTIME. IF YOU EMAIL ME AT [email protected] i'll send information and picture so you'll know where it is cost about $ 45.00 Quite common problem on jeeps. I doubt that its your starter or you won't be able to start the jeep, or the coil. or you would have trouble starting the jeep. questions holler Dale [email protected]

It also sounds like a blocked catalytic converter. Mostly it will drive until it gets hot then start to act up. It will seem to lose power and then die. After about 5-10 minutes you can drive it again until it gets hot then it will die again.

I had the same problem with my '95 cherokee country. The crankshaft sensor solved my problem. I understand this happens alot with this auto.
