I took my 98' V6 Rodeo into he dealer shop b/c of the recall back in 03' for the adjustment of the ABS system.
Well, my engine was making noise as of last week. It started with just a squeeking noise around the fan belt. There is now a more serious noise that sounds like its coming from the common chamber. I know hear a high pitching noise that gets more evident when I accelerate. I really can hear it when I'm driving (It kinda sounds like the engine when your in an flying in an airplane).
Anyways, according to the dealer auto shop, they advised me that the squeaking noise is from my idle pulley, so they advise that I replace that.
They also said that the other noise could be from my timing belt. They suggested that I replace the timing belt and water pump.

My question is:
1. Do you guys think there could be something else wrong?
2. The parts at the dealer is very pricey. Here (in Hawaii) we have Checkers Auto Parts, and Napa. Can I get the required parts from them?
3. If I change the Water Pump, Timing Belt, and Idle Pulley, what else do I need change along with these?

any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

It is most likely the ideler pulley. Seeing that you have 68k (thanks for the info), I think you are safe for at least another 10-20k (I haven't heard of people snapping timing belts on isuzu under 100k yet).

You should be able to get the pulley at NAPA. If not here is a place that gives a discount if you mention this web site and they will ship. You can change the pulley real easy.

Sounds like an idler pulley from what you have described.

How much am I looking to spend if I wanted to replace the Timing Belt and Water Pump?? I've been calling around and I've had quotes as high as $1200 and as low as $507.

The noise around the common chamber could also be a cracked intake manifold gasket. Many have reported a screech, whistling, humming noise from those when they split. I guess the cracked area vibrates like a reed with the air blowing across it from the vacuum leak.

Just had my second timing belt, water pump & tensioner replaced at 154,000 miles at an Isuzu dealer for $530. The first timing belt, water pump & tensioner was replace at 75,000 for $639 at a local repair shop.
