"slave " cd player questions

Is it normal for the slave cd player ( 1998 gmc suburban slt) to be a pain in the but everytime it rains, or the wind blows or the sun shines, ...... you get my point. what i mean is it will not play anything i have burnt which sucks but it also gives me an "err" and spits the cd out everytime its the least bit damp outside is this the norm? i read in the manual they don't want you to clean it so what are the options? i am not the kind of gut that needs a "sytem" or anything like that so i don't really want to put in a new head unit unless absolutely necessary. let me know what you think ,

The Err message is normal when it is damp or cool because of condensation, But it should go away when the player warms up. As far as playing burned cd's they were hit and miss in my factory one also and I had to try a couple different brands to find one that worked well. I am pretty sure I cleaned mine with a lens cleaner, But I can't remember. I now have all Kenwood Excelon and Infinity Kappa perfect components. You could try removing the player and opening the case to see if you can clean it by hand with a Q-tip and Windex. If I get a chance I will look at mine to see how easy it would come apart. My guess would be is to change Cd brands first and don't try CDRW discs.

97 k1500 LT: My player gives the Err message almost always with cds my daughter has burnt. But with regular store bought ones there's no problem. I never have gotten the Err message unless it's one we burned, I hope I didn't juyst jinx myself. :uhoh:

The factory cd player wasn't designed for cdr's, But some will play them and some won't. The brand that worked in my factory radio was dura-brand from wal-mart. Every cd player is different and some factory ones won't play a cdr, But the durabrand worked in my 98.
