Acceleration Problems

Well my 89 IROC-Z (305 tbi throttle body) is still accelerating like crap, and the air cleaner is soaked in gas. I originally changed the air filter, and fuel filter for the acceleration problem, but it still didn’t go away. I just pulled the cat. converter off tonight, and it looks clean to me, I can see through the mesh.
Any Ideas???

My Idea.. get a Nova!! :p
Seriously though, it sounds like something to do with the spark. Check all your plugs and wires. Whats your timing set at? I would check all things having to do with spark, then go from there. Is the car spitting out any codes? Check all these things, then we can help you better.

Besides the few problems the car is running fine. I will try to check for codes tomorrow. Its kind of slow going working in the car because it is buried in the corner of out barn for the winter, and sometimes its just to hard to go work on it when its 20 degrees out
The only code I got out it is 12, which as far as I know is the code that just shows that the test circuit is working

sounds like a stopped up fuel injector. may not be stopped up bad but enuff to squirt the fuel up on the air filter. i see your point about the crappy weather there. does the car set during the winter? i let mine set all winter. which i started it twice a week and let it run 25 minutes a time, and still i had to take out the plugs, clean them up, and put some injector cleaner in.

Check your timming chain slack (by lining up timing mark at TDC and moving the crank untill the dist. starts to move. Then turn the crank the other way unill the dist. starts to move. Note how many degrees on the timing marks it took for the dist. to move from either direction. Rule of thumb: no more than 9 degrees.
Do a compression test.
Sometimes a leaking intake valve/s will allow the fuel air mixture to be pushed back up through the intake saturating the air cleaner.
This would also contribute to the lack of power.
