c5 vette vs E36 M3

I have a delima here, I love my M3... but I want speed... :) LS1 offers a nice platform to build up from, and low rpm tq makes the car really streetable. Now how reliable is a LS1? how many go over 100k miles? How do those engines respond to turbos. Can anyone quote rwhp numbers for someone running 9-20psi. Id probably go for the first year c5 if i decide to do that... just because im looking into spending no more then 20k usd
