ricer = wannabe racer
basically someone with a car that has a bunch of shit on it that does diddly for performance, but the person may think it does.

a ricer is someone with a busted ass body kit, red paint job with green neons, gold interior and a wing that looks bigger than a jets. Someone who races someone, looses and when they pull up next to them at the next light its an old ass lady driving.

A "ricer" is a slang (perhaps derogatory) term for just about every asian made automobile. The term comes from "rice burner" which pokes fun at asian engines stating that they use rice for fuel instead of gasoline (most asian automobiles contain small, hi-rev 4-cyl, engines)
It doesn't really matter what modifications you have done to your asian born vehicle, it can still be labeled as a "ricer".

its awesome that there are a ton of guys out there that strive to have nice amazing cars (like most of the ones on this page), but when it comes to cars that just look broke? i cant deal with. the spoilers that weigh more then the car itself, seven different colored body panels, with stock rims (dont get me wrong stock is fine and all, but with all this money theyve dropped on this you would think they could get something). Broke cars = thumbs down, broke drivers i understand i am one.

I define the term ricer as an indivual who doesn't understand the car terminology nor does he understand the reasoning behind specific parts. You know what REALLY irritates me? People who think a RICER is just someone who is ALL SHOW and NO GO. Well, when did someone with a flawless car become a ricer? Some people are so ignorant these days to think that because you see a civic with a body kit means the driver is a ricer. Don't get me wrong, but I first purchased my Integra in pieces and shits. Dinged trunk, baby blue in color, white front bumber..and so on and so forth. [If you're really interested, it was one of my first posts on the forums months or perhaps a year ago.] Needless to say, I am FAR from a ricer; I don't need to explain myself[in you must know, PM me]. So, in all honesty, I think a ricer is one who purchases parts for his car in an attempt to being a part of the bandwagon.
A quick side note to conclude this post it..to not underestimate a car or driver by the looks of the car as you may not always know what's behind the eyes. I use myself as a strong example.
Yes, ignorant people bother me.

This is true, when i first got my car and had a couple little mods on it I was at a redlight and pulled up beside some cute chick in an integra with a little body work so i revved my engine just a little to get her attention and she didnt do anything but smile back, light turned green, i gun it then i look to my right and hear WOOOOSH! and watch as her car goes flying past me....damn turbos

What I don't get is when people say I'm a ricer just because I have blue colored interior parts and blue hoses in the engine bay. Yeah, the engine is stock but it doesn't look or drive stock. It's a shame the car needs body work. Does all this make me a ricer? Oh yeah, I have an APC short shifter... oh well...

well apc makes resonable price parts, as long as you don't buy anything that is to actually gain power, that may be dangerous, but things like shifters are cool, yeah there are a lot of better ones, but for the time being I respect that, just tell them you are working at it, and respect them, they will shut up if you show respect.

RICER: a person you tell that you have a hatch and their first reaction is "Do you have a Vtec?", like thats the only thing they know about.
RICER: a dudde who reads all the car magezines and always try to look like the smartes one in the group, even when he does not know how to open a cilynder head.
RICER: a stupid person who makes fun of you when you are driving wiht 15" or 16", even when they are SI or Spoon because he only knows about 17".

unlowered ricey wing that isn't painted on top of that + altezza taillights, all it needs is an unpainted bodykit and it would the absolute definition of rice. are those drums painted too...lol

Oh funny story. Out side my buildng is an old civic (80's?) that only has primer on it, and i kid you not, was colored with a purple permanent marker EVERYWHERE, to the point it almost looked painted, but the ink ran down the side a bit. Even the rims are colored with the marker. THe car is missing a hood as well so you can tell there are no performance mods (at least not visable). But if you like it, thats all that matters. To each his/her own.

I give all the "ricer" guys respect.
The only problem is when they see an import that is accually fast and think that their car can go fast as well. Then they try to roll with the big boys, They show up thinking that all the people with fast cars talk nothing but shit and are mean to eveyone, so they try to follow suit and do the same, then wonder why they are hated on.
A car that most people refer to as "rice" belongs at shows/nice car to cruise around, not at the track telling me that they are going to show my grandma Buick their taillights. (Yes it happend at a track during a midnight mayham night) I can understand why people do it. Honestly, it does not take all the much skill as compared to building and tuning an engine/fast race car. Alot of people don't have acess to the equipment and tools it takes to perform that stuff It's basically just money and hard work which anyone can do. I am not saying it takes no skill to wire up neons or do a body kit.... You guys know what I mean

I do not give the ricers any respect. There is a big difference between a ricer and a person who builds show cars. Show cars have a shit load of quality work put into them, most of the time. Ricers just hit up the local autozone and find all the "cool" stuff and just slap it on their car thinking they are fast and furious.
IMO people who build show quality cars aren't ricers. There's two aspects to modding cars, show and go. Some people opt for one or the other and some people try to integrate the two. Either way the real enthusiasts are people who put hard work and effort into their vehicles whether it be show or go. Ricers on the other hand just do it cause it's the cool thing to do IMO.

So, question, I got projector headlights just because my old ones were broke when I got them, but then again, I have a swapped engine with tranny upgrades as well, well, you see the sig to see what I got, but because of the headlights, am I a ricer? :/
Just thought Id ask.

Do you think you're the fastest car out there? Do you tell people it is? Do you rev on any car that pulls up next to you at a stop light? Do you buy parts, stickers, vinyl, or a wing to make people think your car is fast?
If you answered any of those questions with a yes, then you are a ricer. If you didn't then there is a very good chance you're not. It's all about the kind of attitude you have with the things you do. Just buying something because you need to replace a broken part does not make you a ricer (especially if it's cheaper than OE, everyone looks for a deal).

If it's broke upgrade it. If you ever retrofit those projectors with some HIDs, you'll be able to see better at night, not ricey IMO. Rice is like what CivicSpoon said, a state of mind. The people in that state of mind just happen to think big wings, atrocious bodykits and APC are mAd tYtE yO

HIDs are awesome, no matter what car theyre on. I had this pair of HIDs following me one night , so I pulled aside to let him pass...turbned out to be an 80's Dakota that was trailing me, with some kinda HID kit. It looked pretty sweet, lit up the road like day.

If youve ever driven a car with HID's youll want them on your car. My dads g35 has HID's and after driving it once at night I realized how great they were. If I had the cash to throw around I would put a kit in my civic in a heart beat.
