I went to an oil change place and told them to royal purple fluid in the transmission (manual) and they told me that I could only use some Pennzoil syncromesh fluid in it. The transmission is a nv3500 in a s-10 with the 4.3l v6. Is this correct or can I use the royal purple?

they most likely said that because its what the factory recomends, i dont see royal purple being bad, but flush the old out first

Pennzoil syncromesh is just the brand name that they get paid to endorse.
Contact Royal Purple and ask them what oil that they recomend for your transmission.
They should have a web site, with a contact us link

For your manual Trany the oil has to be syncromesh, doesn't matter on the brand. Actuatly the best brand of syncromesh for the chevy manuals is the stuff you get at the dealer, I know most of us get a bad feeling when this word is used. Trust me though, go with the GM brand syncormesh and your trany will thank you.
