electrical problem on 97 grand am

my ERLS fuse keeps blowing. It controls my shifter lockout, trans shifting, EGR, and other electrical items. It is very eratic. It will be fine for awhile and then I can't keep fuses in it. The fuse won't blow with the car off and the key in the run position but as soon as you start the car the fuse blows. The brake, ABS, and the check engine light come on. The trans won't shift into first or fourth gear. Anyone have anything to try. I checked wiring and plug ins. All looks good. Wondering if matbe the neutral safety switch has anything to do with it? 97 grand am se with 3.1L v6, 4 speed auto trans :screwy:
