Squealing on Left Turn

Hello. I have a 2001 Alero. It has recently started making a squealing noise upon left hand turns. The noise appears to come from the steering column or there abouts. I can sometimes stop it by jerking the steering wheel to the right. Otherwise it eventually runs its course driving straight and will eventually stop. I have checked the power steering fluid level and it is full. I've looked for belts, but alas I'm a girl and really don't have a clue what I'm looking for! :) Can someone tell me what this might be? Thanks so much!!

I had to have my power steering pump replaced when I first had my car and I didn't even know that it was bad. They told me that the pump was cavitating the fluid, eventhough there was plenty of fluid in the resivior (wasn't pumping fluid to all parts of the system). This may be your problem. I have also heard of some problems with the entire steering racks on earlier Aleros.

I too, have this same problem on a 2000 Alero, and it happens when it's cold, and only on left turns, so that's a good suggestion, and thank you.

I also have this problem on an '01 Alero and it's only on left hand turns when the car is cold. The dealer told me I had a power steering leak and had to replace seals and something else, total cost about $1000. I hadn't heard anything about the power steering pump. Does anyone know how much the pump costs?

The power steering pump should onl range from 80-100. I think that may even be with the pulley attached.
