AC fan problem

My 2001 is having a problem with the AC fan/blower. The fan only blows on 3 or higher. On 1 or 2 I get nothing. Any ideas on what the problem may be?

It is most likely the blower resistor. This is a pretty common problem.

I agree with mark101, but before you go replacing the resistors have a look at your blower motor. My silverado was doing almost the same thing but it only had high speed for the fan, the blower motor was so seized up that it would barely turn at all which in turn blew the resistors.

I have had very similar problem, took me a while to pinpoint but found it. Try this, push a/c button in (on) and turn fan switch to zero (off), is the light (led) on a/c button still lit? If so, replace fan switch. Very common on GM trucks after I think '94. Some dealerships will try to say you must buy whole a/c control assembly ($150), but you can buy just the fan switch and put on old a/c control assembly

Hey bigblue01,

what ended up being the problem? I have the exact same thing happeining with my 99 Silverado. I tried the test of turning on the AC, then turning the fan switch to 0 for off and the light on the AC button did go off like it's supposed to, indicating that it may just be a resistor. Just wanted to see what you found out.

Thanks,
Mike
