making a sleeper

what are some tips and tricks you can do to make a kick ass sleeper. im just curious what are some things that can be done to make a car less noticable

i made this thread just to go against the bodykit threadi figure if we cover bodykits and what not lets talk about the opposite which would be sleeping

no flashy rims but good rubber, no excess body parts, no flashy paint job, no crazy colours inside.. and a fast engine.. its not a sleeper unless its fast

stock and heavily built...you can get carbon fiber for weight loss...then paint over it...like im going to...tint your windows dark...then gut the rear seats...get some stocker look alike wheels that are like 9" wide...then get some hella sticky rubber...being a sleeper is way easier than being flashy...oh yea...quiet exhaust is a key
no one thinks a 69' camaro that is loping is a piece...unless its rusted...but everyone will still think its fast...you get some roller rockers...(no lope) and your hella fast with out the dragster sound...i know a 69' camaro is alittle off subject..lol

the best way to be a sleeper is not fix any dents you may have on the car. or if you don't have any kick in a side panel or something. then throw some pretty expensive rims on. they'll think your trying to hard to look cool, then when you smoke them...they will fear you ;-p

Eh... I figure the sleeper look has changed, what with all these broke ass people (enthusiasts) doing engine swaps and leaving out any exterior or superficial mods. Make your car look ricer with the balls to back it up... that'd be sleeper nowadays. Too many ghetto looking cars out there kicking people's asses. People learn.

if you really want to keep quiet than dont lower the car too much. . . no more than 1 inch down. if you're only street racing than you dont need an extremely stiff, low suspension. and factory wheels help a lot as well.

i was about to suggest making it look really ricey but someone already said that
for the exhuast part to get the benefits of a large exhuast for say a turbo there was this one thing my friend showed me it looks like a throttle body almost it is fitted to your exhaust and the pressure created by a turbo opens it, otherwise it stays closed and you have a stock sounding exhuast

i saw this thing the other day, forget what it was called, but it is a piece that u weld into the exaust pipe and it branches off and has a opening right behind the downpipe. u press a button and it opens up so u have a completly free flowing exhaust but u keep ur stock exhaust on so u dont have some ricy looking exhaust. sorry if my explanation is scatter brained. but that shit is very sleeper stopped at a light press the button and ur exhaust is wide open

yea thats what hot rods use...very slick...you can buy it in jegs for like 30 bucks

what is it called they have them so u can maualy open them or so its electronic and all u have to do is press a button and poof 5 seconds later ur race ready

beany baby's in the rear window
"back the blue" bumper stickers
dealership license plate frames
rig up a fake oil leak. noone expects a mean machine to be dripping fluids at a stop light.
good rubber

and then the traditional:
sneaky pete bottle where the tire jack is supposed to go. if they pop the hood, make sure you installed the nozzle on the bottom of the intake and wrapped the hoses in electrical tape

gauges in ashtray

put a "got rice" sticker on there too....or a super street sticker so it looks like your trying to be fnf cool street racer man!!! Then when shit hits the fan, dust anything that challenges.

suspension parts are easy to conceal, top if ott with some STB's, Coilovers(the real shit not some skunk2 or dropzone shit) and sway bars

very true.. and if you didn't know, we have the new si-r's as undercover cops a few times a year.. but we're talking about sleepers.. i'd say dark everything, like gt500916's rims and everything i suggested before

a good sleeper is a car like a 240sx with a v8 they won't see that shit comming


an even better sleeper is tunrning something the entire world knows as fwd low power into a rwd american v8, like imagine comming up to a light and seeing this civic and a pickup stopped there, you hear rumbling from a v8... you would never expect that to be comming from a civic you would automatically say its the truck. would make it even better if it was a high 11 or low 12 second setup..........you would hardcore own a lot of people... shit people who don't know you that would be a killer fucken ride to bet money with against the domestics, they would shit their panties

I think the ultimate modification is putting a rwd v8 into a civic/new celica/Accord/maxima or same type

something really awesome happened in my area. It was in the paper not too long ago, but the local cop station bought a new STI off the subaru dealership and is using it as an undercover street car. It is yellow and looks like something a street racer would drive. They did an interview with one of the people who got pulled over and the first thing he said was "Whats under the hood?"..Lol. the cops around here are great..

lol...how about an rb26dett awd geo metro...just custom make the entire suspension for the awd and brakes to work with it...lol then since the awd brakes are pretty big just use some 18" spinners for rims...it look all ghetto'd out

How about an AE86? I always though those would make good sleepers. I wouldn't expect it if I didn't know what it was.

And flat black paint is no longer the sleeper color because ricers use that paint and are in fact still slow. Use hot pink spray paint from now on.

And I like SR20DETpower's idea with the riced out civic. Not the V8 idea, but a boosted B18C1 would be killer with all the rice gear.

i don't think i'd see that kind of car as a sleeper.. my idea of a sleeper is something that looks like its never been modded and been driven by a grandma but drives like a 911 turbo (slight exaggeration).. screw all the ricey shit, its gotta look stock to be a sleeper.. either that or it has to look like its in bad shape..

I think a stock sleeper would be the best. As much as a ricey sleeper would be cool, it just doesn't fit my definition of a sleeper.

real sleeper ither have the out side of the car stock with broken turn siglnals and bak too, with paints fadded and missing, DRUTY CAR dont wash it no more keep the inside clean from seen gages , no rims or kits of any sorte and put god is good sticker on it lost of religus things and a few hello kitty stickers hahahha and a cute stuff animal in the car along with a cute steering wheel cover who would think the car with the mashiaro in the window dose 10 seconds hahaha

A stock car in good condition is better then some beat up old piece of shit.

get rid of gauges. i have an sr that just put down 250/255 and i used to have three huge 60mm greddy guages. i scrapped them because they were too obtrusive.

all i have now is a profec b spec ii i also use for the boost gauge, and its mounted underneath the radio (fairly hidden). when i ever get an safc and/or a wideband, its going in the glove box (why would you ever want to look at either of those anyways? when its tuned, its tuned...).

other than that just keep the body stock and have a big ol fart can on the back hehhehe :)

I have to have my gauges. Boost, oil pressure, wideband(when I get it), and yes the SAFC. I'm a nitpicker, so I watch them all the time.

Dude, that's not a sleeper, do you know what a sleeper is? And you can't put 2 T88s on an RB26, not even on a 2JZ.

To be a good sleeper is a little harder with a turbo, even harder with a twin turbo. If you want to be a sleeper you cant have blow off valves goin "PHSSSS" every time you change gears. And you cant have a fmic, a smic would work but doesnt let you have as much hp as a fmic. I think the perfect sleeper is a 1991 Honda crx, no body work or paint job. Just a stock looking crx with a very little bit of rust. Drop a B16a1 into it or if strictly for racing a H22. Add bolt ons and maybe engine internals and you should be able to cream on a hell of a lot of people. Add nitrous and maybe even a turbo and you will "decimate all". Also i think one of the biggest give aways to a sleeper is when people have a set of sparco racing seats with 5pt harness. Who has a car that looks like it is slow but a set of 1200 racing seats????

you can have a fmic....just dont make it as visible...vmount maybe?? and 1000 SPONSOR decals makes it look like it has work done.....go figure. thats like saying The ultimate sleeper has a jet engine sticking out the back....sleeper is almost stock looking, maybe a lip on the front bumper or someshit but nothing to major. Stickers are a "no" in my opinion. Just a clean looking car that looks like it rolled off the lot. Then bam hits hard when needed. It has to make the douche bag in the viper be like GOD DAMN!!!
