When I turn my heater on I get a loud screeching noise. It will stop if I turn the heater down but I don't seem to be getting any heat blowing. If I turn it on the highest it works but I get the noise. Is it a fan problem or a heater blower problem? Also how difficult is it to get to? (Basically I need to know if I could do it, which I am not familar with my way around a vehicle but I'm will to try.) Lastly about how much of a cost am I looking at?

You may have some debris in the fan motor which will kill it adventually. The fan motor is located next to the AC box on the passenger side under the hood. It has some wires connected to it and should be in plain view. I have never changed the one in mine so I am not sure how hard it is to remove. The usually run under $100 at a parts place. Good Luck

Thanks. I'll look into it this weekend. Any other info any one can offer would be appreciated.

My father in law has a 95 b4000 Mazda, which is brethren to the explorer and ranger, and has already replaced his fan. He said NAPA, $45... I have found it for my 93 at around 60 (I only have 1 speed that works!) It only takes a few minutes once off, and you only need a good ratchet set... Good Luck!
