service engine soon light

How do I get the service engine soon light to turn off in a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am Se. It came on for no reason and I need to turn it off. Thanks

Take the car to Autozone and have the computer scanned for codes. Once you repair the problem that is throwing the code then you can clear the computer and the light should go out.

I could be wrong, but:
I have a 99 Pontiac GA SE and my SES light came on (altho it might have been check engine)...I had gotten gas in NJ and they didn't tighten the gas cap down tightly...I'm a chick and could be confused, though, but I know that untight gascap will cause one of those 2 lights to come on :)

the gas cap is for one of maybe 50 codes that that light may come on for....yes it may be that...because that is common...it sets an evap code....but even if you tighten the cap...the light wont go off until after a few ignition cycles...your best bet is to go to autozone and get the code read....its free...and then theyll tell you what you can do....oh and the SES and check engine are the same light :p :)

Come back here with the exact code from auto zone. The light doesn't go on for no reason.
