Shift lever alternative for indash tv???

I currently have an Alpine iva-d300 7" indash tv installed in my yukon denali and i have to set it so it does not go in and out upon turning the car on and off because of the shift lever being in the way. so as of now my tv (unless i either retract the monitor in while in drive or i actually hold the lever away while the monitor retracts) stays stationary in the "out" position, which hasnt bothered me until now as it is a pain to put it in whenever i dont want to draw attention to it.

is there an answer to my problem? maybe a different shift lever, possibly just rotating my existing one somewhat? i didnt want to go in trying to unscrew it or whatever and end up breaking something as i kinda need it to drive :) thanks.

For the most part, there are really only two "practical" solutions I've read about: either bend the shift handle or shorten it by cutting part of it off.

how would i go about doing either of these? i have never even attempted to remove a shift lever so i have no idea what is involved in doing either or how the lever is even connected.

if it does come down to bending i cutting the lever i'll probably just try and find a used one off ebay to mess with first that way i'll always have my original unmodified one should i need it at anytime.

To remove the shift lever, you have to remove the plastics around the column. When you get them off, there is a hex type bolt that holds the shifter on. I don't remember the size. You will also have to remove the panel underneath the column and unplug the orange tow on/off wire. Just follow it down the column. The process for all this isn't very hard. Good luck.
