My Block heater appears to be causing problems. When I plugged it in during extreme cold temps. The 3 metal prongs on the end of the cord sparked and left black burn marks. I cut the cord and replaced the 3 prong end. When plugged in again the end was fine but there was an electrical shorting out sound and a burning smell coming from where the block heater sits. I haven't plugged it in since.

Does this mean the Block heater is shot or is there a quick fix to resolve this problem? Also if block heater does need to be replaced can it be done at home or does it require major mechanical work?

Thanks to anyone who may know in Advance

You wouldn't be concerned about the block heater if the vehicle was in the Cayman Islands. I suspect that it is actually in central Canada and likely in your parents custody. My suggestion is to send them cash to have the block heater checked and extra cash and tickets to the Caymans to show your gratitude for looking after this for you.
