hey everyone, i am looking at buying a maxima and would like to know the differences in the 4th generation model years. I have looked at a lot of sites and they are usually grouped into 95-96 and 97-99. Are there differences between the engine's computers and/or bodies. If so, what are they and how do they differ. i.e. performance and looks. Thanks for your input!

97-99 front end looks alot more agressive ask anyone. And the tailights are alot better looking with the white on the bottom. 95,96 are lighter but. I say go for a 97+ they are not too much lighter to settle for the looks.

Thanks. But there arent any performance differences? I mean, from what ive gathered the EMUs must be different. Does this affect performance in any way. Also on the stillen web site it quotes the supercharged SMX maxima on running "0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds (stock was 7.4)." Their quarter mile time was 14.4 seconds at 98.8 mph vs. stock at 15.5, 90 mph. Does anyone know what transmision this is. I assume that it is an auto, but im not sure. Also, is this solely with the supercharger, or are there other perfomance mods. Thanks again.

I think stock, they are the same performance wise. Maybe a few horse more on the 97+. Biggest differance is in the appearance.

I have a 99 max,
It has the Cali emissions and that hampers performance a little. The 95-96 is a "bit" faster. I would get a 97-99 max, but be minful of the Cali Specs. You can tell by 4 sensors on the front of the engine block.
