Sounds to me new brake PADS were put on. The pads are stationary and are what move when you press the breaks. The thing that these grab onto are called the Rotors. What happens is that the rotor is not perfectly round anymore. When the pads grab onto the rotor (when you apply the brakes) to stop, the out of round rotor pushes back against the pads and ultimately the brake pedal. Think of it like this: You have a bike, and you run over the front tire, just enough to bend it. When you go to use the brakes on that rim, the little pads wobble back and forth. So all in all, especially being such an old vehicle, im guessing your rotors are warped.

my caravan warps its front rotors all the time. kind of $$, but it has to be done so get your rotors replaced. probably just need fronts

You may be able to get the old ones resurfaced. These are easy to replace if needed. Autozone has them for $24.99 each so this is a cheap fix. www.autozone.com Good Luck
