No forward gear, just reverse?? help?

89 blazer, 4.3 4x4. 700r4 tranny . The car doesn't go forward at all, but the reverse does work. I am not extremely familar w/ 700 R4. has anybody had this specific problem on their blazer?

I'm not real familiar with 700r4s but have you checked the tranny fluid? Is it low? Burnt? Metal flakes? Were you off roading when it messed up maybe something snagged the linkage?
