a/c troubleshooting problems

1996 Olds Achieva Quad 2.4L A/C
symptoms:
In the morning whilest its cool outside the a/c clutch kicks in for 3 mins
after 2-3 mins she shuts down and doesn't cycle at all.
The only way I can get it to cycle is to turn off the car and let her cool down. After she cools down awhile she will recycle once but quickly shuts down. The fan runs. And there is 12 volts running to the compressor clutch when the a/c switch is turned on but not when its turned off. If it was low on freon it would suck it up when I connect a can of R-134a to it. But the clutch doesn't stay on.

update
The a/c compressor and clutch work. Went around relay with a hotwire and comp. works. Interesting thing about it is when hotwire the a/c runs but not the fan. The fan starts in the morning but the heat of the engine shuts down the comp and / or the fan. Could be computer or a sensor.
