What color is TS-39 Mica Red?

To complete this project I need to get hold of the standard R32 GTR side mirrors as the Calsonic car has the wrong mirrors:(

Are you sure that those mirrors won't be included in the kit? They often include more than one set.

Wait a minute, you're worried about what mirrors to put on, but you don't seem to mind that the colour you have chosen is wrong? Call me stupid, but the colour of the car in those pictures doesn't look very metallic to me, and yet you've opted to use metallic red on it. But hey, what do I know. I'm colourblind.

This winfield sponsored Skyline is a solid red colour. Tamiya's TS-8 Italian red will be spot on. I have a good picture of the car in one of my Australian Touring car magazines, but can't scan it.

Italian Red seems a little bright for that color

I think if you use Italian Red, use a Dark Grey or Black primer to make the shade darker (red, yellow, white are affected by primer color)

I have even been watching the old footage and still can't seem to work out which colour will best suit so far TS18 IS the closest match.

I will see what the Itallian red looks like with a grey primer coat.

As for the mirrors there are definatley only one set in the kit:(

Mate, go and buy some automotive paint... It will probably be chaeper and match more correctly.

How can a metalic red be the closest match if the car isn't even metalic!!!

Good, I'm glad someone agrees with me!!! I thought what I put earlier was just being ignored.

Finally got sick of having the kit sitting on my desk staring at me every day, so today I finally got off my ass and started making an effort to complete the project.

Found out that not only do I need the standard GTR wing mirrors I also need the battery to complete it. Looks like time to buy another R32 GTR road version to complete the job.

will post some pics of the progress tomorrow if the weather holds out

Hey I dunno if this would work, it may though just not look any good. But if one of the reds is too light, you could back it with a black primer (if one exists), or a Flat Black.

I've noticed this on my R/C Bodies, that the metallic Green I use is quite light, but once I've backed it with Black it goes alot darker. (just for reference, you paint the inside of a R/C body).

primed it with grey primer and the colour seems to look ok. I will take the shell to a friends who has the diecast model and compare the colour.

well its almost done.

I'm happy with the way the engine and interior came out, the shell painted well (right colour I feel). The one thing I have not been 100% happy about is the decals. The print job on them is not the best quality and the are WAY TOO Thin.

Normally I use decal seal to help finish and set the decals, however with these decals the decal seal started eating the decals:( and the yellow decal for the front bumper was too short for the area it is supposed to cover (so this was painted yellow instead).

All in all though I have enjoyed making this small piece of Downunder motor racing history.

It's nice that you got back on track again. From the photos it looks like you were right about the color, it looks just like the real thing. Keep up the great work

nope I was wrong with the color. I ended up using Itallian red with a darker primer.
