4wheel drive

I have been using my 4-wheel drive lately, b/c of the snow, but now I try to disengage the 4-wheel drive and the indicator onthe shows that the front axle is not disengaging.

I know that it is not disengaged b/c once I hit about 50mph my vehicle starts to vibrate.

I tried to disconnect the vacuum line from the servo thinking that would disengage it, to no avail.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this.

back up for like 10 ft............works for me when it get stuck

I already tried backing up, but did not work.

The thing that stumps me is that I used it in mid-November when I was deer hunting and did not have any problems with it.

This problem occurred in the past two weeks.

That indicator on the floor is still lit up showing the front axle is still engaged.

Your cable could be hanging up, Pull your battery and tray and check the cable from the actuator.

Isn't that vacuum operated??

Does anyone know where that servo (vacuum canister) is for the front axle??

If you pulled the vaccume line appart (the one by the battery tray) and it did not release the front hubs then I would pull the battery tray off like Mikedo14 said and see if the cable is binding up.

That is exactly what i was looking for.

Just stick your hand under the battery and check to see if the vacuum actuator is pulling on the cable. When pulling on the cable you will not be able to push in on the rubber part facing the center of the engine (where the cable going to the front diff is connected). Think how a balloon looks when you suck all the air out of it, it is crumpled up a little, this is how the actuator's rubbler section will look and feel. When not engaging the front diff the rubber will be smooth and you will be able to push it in. If engaged (sucked in) disconnect the vacuum hose from it, this should let the actuator disengage the front diff.
1. If it does then you know the vacuum switch on the transfer case and/or vacuum lines are bad.
2. If it stayes engaged then you know the actuator or cable are hung up and the vacuum lines are fine. Disconnect the cable from the actuator, see if the actuator pushes out now. Check if the cable can be pushed in and out.

I was going to work on it two nights ago checking everything from start to finish and on the way home it decided to disengage it self. So I thought that the bulb was burnt out, got up to 60 mph and no vibration. So I am still going to see what the problem was, but now it isn't so urgent

Sounds like either the vacuum actuator/cable going to the front diff was stuck or the vacuum switch was stuck. I would start with the actuator/cable first because they are easy to get to. Good luck.
