hi all, not much of a civic person, not that i dont like them, great cars, but never owned one. One of my buddies is trying to get rid of his 89 crx hatchback, the timing is off and he wants 300 for it, if i bought the car and did the timing could i make some money off of it? or is the resale on these things not that good? the body isnt in the best shape, its been a michigan car for its whole life, but the underbody, moter (v tec) and tranny are in great working order and it just had a new clutch and flywheel put in a year or so ago, if i get the car back to running order could i get like 800 or so out of it or would this all be a waste of my time? thanks for all the input and i hope i didnt waste your time.

Honda's (even older ones) have great resale value. Always have. If you put some time into getting the CRX runnin' right & maybe take care of any (blatant) body damage, you could probably get between $1-1200 for it.

Then again, you might just like it too much & decide to keep it :grinyes:

If the timing is off because the timing belt slipped, broke, or was installed incorrectly you could have much bigger problems. There is not much clearence between the pistons and valves.

as long as its not off by more than one to two teeth all should be cool... any more and valves are dead.

timing is off because some dumbass kids tryed to steel the car and in the process of being busted ripped off the distributer, valves will be fine

and to reply to the which vtec it has, im not sure, the car was going to be used on a local dirt track and at the last moment (literally right before the guy stripped the car but after the preformence was done) decided to move way up to late model racing, so the vtec was going to be a race moter, your guess is as good as mine and appreciated

Just look on the block to the left of the exhaust manifold, there will be a engine code.

I've gotten used distributors on eBay for $50 to $70.
