timing adjustments?

my solara has a slight miss at 3200 rpms and I was wondering if the timing may be off. I know that nowadays, most cars timing is automatically adjusted but is there a way to advance it? This will usually add a few hp up top and may get rid of the miss. any suggestions?

Your solara's ecu automaticly adjusts timeing for power and fuel economy constantly. When you first tromp on the gas it advances it as far as 17+% in advance and when the you reach higher rpms it backs it off to give you more top end power.

Now, conserning your miss, its not nessisaraly a miss if your check eng light is not on. If its only noticeable when you are spooling up the motor sitting still, this is nothing to be too conserned about, because the computer is used to seeing a load on the car at thease rpms. However, if you can tell when driveing, it could be a bigger consern. First thing I would look at would be your plugs. Toyota motors are very picky about what plugs work best in your car. Plugs purchessed from the dealer are prefered but not nessisary, but I woulden't put anything but Denso or NGK plugs in a toyota motor with stock ingition. You should also change your plugs every 30k miles for resister plugs, 60K for platnum plugs, and 90k for irridium.

if that doesn't work, try unhooking your battery for about a half hour, then hook it back up. Drive around like a normal human for about 15 minutes, and that should reset your computer.
