I have a 2000 civic Ex, and i recently swapped a b18 c1 into it. I have i/h/e, fuel rail and regulator installed on it now. I was wondering if there may be a problem with my engine because when i raced the other night with several other cars. First and second gear seem to lagging real bad and not picking up speed like it should. My friends integra has the same engine mods as i do. and when he takes off he picks up speed off the start. so could it be and engine problem? i need to practice racing more? more engine mods?

As you undoubtedly know, B series engines require high revs to make their power. I had a Civic SiR (B16), and it came alive around 5500rpm. Do you find the car pulls much better once the VTEC kicks in? If not, then it could be a problem. Where did you get the engine from?

Yes it does pull alot better, but thats not until 3rd to 5th gear. 1st and 2nd seem to struggle more than it should when picking up speed. I got my engine from a Del Sol that was wrecked. It was a rear hit. thanks for replying

That is odd; I had a 2000 Civic SiR (Canada)...it had 160hp and 111lb/ft torque. Even in first, once it hit about 5500rpm, it would really take off and pull strong until 8200rpm where it cut out. Second was just as strong; I could downshift at like 80km/h and chirp the tires and really take off. The car wasn't downright fast, but very quick and respectable. Yours should be similar, except obviously faster. You should take it to a track sometime or run with a G-Tech meter; at the very least, run against a car off the line you know you SHOULD be able to beat, and that should give you an idea of how it is actually performing. Hopefully you get it figured out, all the best.

Check and see if it's throwing any codes...it's the car sputtering or anything or is it just slow
?

I agree.
It could be running rich or there could be some thing wrong with your spark. I could be a number of things.

Well you put a new fuel rail and pressure regulator in, it could be you need higher flowing injectors. That's the problem with just throwing performance parts on, just cause a magazine says they will work with that engine doesn't mean that they will work properly without adding more and more stuff to compensate for the changes they will make.

So you swapped the engine out of your del sol? The engine prolly runs fine but now its under more weight, thats why it feels slower at lower speeds and faster once you get moving.

No No... he got the B18c1 out of a wrecked Del Sol.
He put the motor into a 2000 Civic Ex...
I don't think he owned the Del Sol, so I don't think he'd know how hard it'd pull in that little car.

Oh...well its still not a torquey motor, you just gotta rev it out to get it going thats the kind of motor it is.

the difference in weight between the two cars is around 200 lbs...so Yamahapower could be right about the weight difference, but like redneck said..

His old ride was a SHO... which was powered by a Yamaha designed V6 I believe.
Thus, Yamaha Power.

would running a dyno test be a good way to decipher the problem? I'm starting to think about just swapping back in my EX motor and rebuilding the B18 c1, because im starting to think it may be an internal problem? Im also thinking that the previous owner may have done something to the engine as well? should i run a dyno test first? or just rebuild the engine? thanks for all the replies.

Why do a dyno run if you're going to completely overhaul the engine? Rebuild it first

I don't know i thought running a dyno would save me time in rebuilding it? but oh well....rebuilding it would be alot more fun anyways. thanks everyone for your help.

First off, unless you are shifting at like 3000RPMs, VTEC should engage around 5500...if not, check your spark plugs. I used to have a 93 GSR with a B18C1 and I had a cracked plug. When I fixed that, boy did she jump on the stick. Word of advice - get higher fuel injectors as Josh said...will help out a lot. Other than that, not sure.
I'm heading out to work today, I can check it out there for ya (couple guys have B-series engines).
