Timing belt/chain in Grand Vitara

What do they have and when does it need to be replaced?

They have a chain. Never done one for maintenance reasons. Never seen one break either.

does your frt chain cover leak thats the only issue with em they leak right behind the p/s bracket my record reseal is 2.1hrs they list in the flat rate book at 12.5+ aint that sweet also if you get some ticking noise here and there coming from the chain area mostly above the alt inside the cover suzuki has updated their chain tensioner like 5 times add an half hour on the big time to do that when your in their! just do your rec 30 and 60 and dont let your oil changes slack or they will turn into sludge monsters peace

Now you tell me :eek7: Timing chain did break, pulled the cover and engine already toasted, served with metal shavings and sludge. Purchased the vehicle used and I the original owner was big on oil changes. I've been changing the oil at 3k miles due to severe driving (high heat and lots of city miles) so I know it wasn't me. Oh well, just had an engine put in and it has less than 30k on it so hopefully this one will last a little longer, at least until its paid for. What can I do to make sure this one doesn't turn into a sludge-fest?
