Hey all,
few questions here,
1. Reg oil vs synthetic? Pros?? Cons??? I have 108,000 my 1999 3.8. and was pondering changing to synthetic. I change my oil very 3,000 miles. How long can go go with synthetic?
2. Dex cool vs the old green stuff. Been reading some mixed reviews on the dexcool. I have had no problems with the gaskets,(head or intake) and was looking for feedback.. Has anyone with a 3.8 had head or intake problems? Does dexcool eat away at those gaskets??
3. Will be replacing the IAC this weekend. Should I reset the ECM???
Thanks for your input!!

1. I used synthetic oil for the past 5 years. They say you can change it every 5,000 miles but I still change it every 3,000. You know, the cleaner the oil, the longer the engine will live.
2. I use the old green and had no problems so far
3. The ECM has to relearn the IAC. There are two ways to do that: first, using a scan tool; second, by driving long enough (like, 45 minutes). The first 15-20 minutes the engine will hesitate but don't panic. It's normal.

Synthetic can go to 7k, but change the filter at 3k even if you have synth.
Dexcool is fine, just keep on top of the schedule and you'll be okay.
After installing the IAC, turn the key on for 10 seconds, off for 10 seconds, then crank. That resets the IAC motor. The ECM will learn this much faster if you do the key bit (IMO).
