So you think you got it fixed...

I posted my concern once already and it ended up under the the wrong thread. So here goes again. I am the owner of a 1995 3/4 ton Desiel Chev suburban, 248000kms. A month ago apparently the thermostate stuck, causing it to over heat and blew the head gaskets. For a fair price of $3800, the engine was repaired at a locally owned desiel auto shop. It got new gaskets and heads along with a few other things.
Today they called and said it was done. I paid the bill in full and left with it seeming to run fine. Not a mile down the road I heard a whirling sound. Like a button on a string toy. I returned home to have Hubby-Ron take her out for a spin. He returned to the shop to tell them that the turbo was making a noise it had not made before they worked on it. He was told by the owner of the shop that turbos make noise and to "Try it". Which to him some how meant they are unwilling to do anything about it.
He believes that the one of the turbo fans has been damaged, either removing or replacing it, or from what he called crap which they may have got in it while it was removed. He believes it to be shot and thinks because of it's cost that the shop is unwilling to take responsibility for it. And that his next move would be to go to court.
I am staying positive and am going to return to the shop in the morning to tell them that it is making a noise which I have never heard before they repaired it. I think they at least owe me a test drive, a look into this problem in case it's a simple fix (Ron doubts), if not a new fix on that turbo if damaged. Hubby is being very discouraging with comments like- for all this guy knows it was hooped when we took it in and like shisters we want a free turbo. Is this looking bad or what?
Please feel free to comment on anything I've said so far. If things dont go well for me at the shop, Hubs here is going to be more pissed than he already is. Maybe someone here has a bit of useful advice for him, I'll be sure to pass it on. Pretty sure too that this site will be of intrest to him, lots of guy stuff to find here.

You might have cooked the turbo bearings with the engine over heat problem also if a lot of antifreeze mixed with the oil then that could have also killed the turbo bearings

Hey kids, it's me again. If you cant tell me whats wrong with my truck, can you at least tell me whats up with the guys surrounding this situation.
I have this 95 desiel suburban. Driven it for most of it's life, 248 000 kms, been good to it. Any time I've ever run over anything, all the damage was on the other vehicle, never even sratched it. Always use two parking spots to park it, kids keep it clean and gas jockeys have never touched it. I love this truck, even though an old timer once told me never to fall in love with a vehicle.
Up until now, all repairs have been done at the dealership, only the transmission was replaced with a heavy duty one from a trany shop. Put about 15 000$ into it since I've had it. It seems you gotta have a lotta money to keep a desiel 4X4 on the road.
Trying to avoid the dealership this time, we took the truck to a local desiel shop to have heads and gaskets and all the stuff to fix it done. It over heated on account of a thermostate and we were looking at not only blown head gaskets, but the heads needed to be replaced.
After paying the bill and leaving, I knowticed a noise that was never there before. Engine is back, temp hardly moves. After speeding up this high pitched whirl starts up, until my foot lets up. Husband here drove it and says, it's without doubt, the turbo. It was fine when he drove it in, they did something that damaged it, and they should have taken it straight back and at least investigated. But not in those words.
I did take it back, the guy said it sounds like an air leak. Drive it to see if it gets worse and also to build up some exhaust residue on that possible leak. Said nothing can happen to the engine, have no fear and drive.
Now husband says the guy is dickin' me, says it's obvious that this shop guy knows exactly what the deal is, and doesnt want to shell out for the turbo, or the $9 an hour he pays this kid that works for him. Says he can replace his own turbo and the only way I'm gonna get anything out of this shop guy is in court. But not in those words exactly. Oh and not only hubby, but heavy duty desiel brother, both tell me that if I drive it, the turbo will sooner or later disinagrate which could wreck my engine!
So here I am. I need that truck, I could ditch it like an old boyfriend, if a gas engine is the way to go. Either way I gotta have it fixed, I have three kids and "we gotta go". That 30 day warrenty down at the shop is ticking away. Who's arse do I light the fire under? And what's with these guys, I dont see any communicating going on. Should I be taking cover?

P.S. Good thinking Fireplug. I threw it in, Hubby says not a chance. He checked everything out before he dropped it off.
