*Review* DC Sports 4-1 header

Me and about 7 of my friends, including Rick (i like naked girls) just finished installing my new DC Sports 4-1 header.
Install took 2 hrs total.
Tools you will need: 10mm socket, 12mm socket, 17mm socket, phillips screwdriver, metal pipe, a pit where available
First thing to do is remove the headshield which is fairly self explanitory.
Next, loosen all of the bolts off of your head.
After that, unsnap your exhaust sensor about 6 inches up from the sensor itself, there should be a clip there.
Unbolt the header from a bracket on the lower part of the block. (That required the metal pipe after Rick swung on it for a while)
Unbolt the 2 bolts that support the header near the cat.
Unbolt the 2 bolts that hold it onto the cat itself.
Be careful and pull it off.
Unbolt the sensor from the stock header, and also twist off the donut ring and keep the stock gasket.
New header slides right in and after about 3 minutes of wiggling is ready to bolt. Bolt it up so everything is snug, wipe the header down w/ mild detergent so that all oil is off of it, and start the car and listen for leaks.
Last but not least, put your dipstick back in. Mine is still in my friends garage. A rubberbanded rag works fine in the meantime. :D

-----
The gain at midrange is exactly as I expected. No more slow crawl from 5500-6500 (B16 people know what I'm talking about). It revs like its in neutral when it gets in that range. Excellent powergain, really worth the $296 shipped from www.groupbuycenter.com. (Buy from YellowTypeR, excellent pricing and service)
Here's a dyno from ClubSi.com to prove my point.

well i wouldnt say i helped that much except when i was hanging in the air on the socket wrench trying to break that bolt. or giving you guys the ingenious idea of unplugging the o2 sensor and removing it once you drop the old manifold out rather then trying to take it out while the things still on the car. all in all it would have been quiker but we were bullshitting and getting the stuck bolt off was a bitch, not to mention the compression tester getting stuck in the plug hole on that quad 4....that scared the shit outa me cause i didnt think it was comin out!!!!
good times, next we gotta put some cams in, that might take about 3 days!!!

Working on cars without bullshitting is like eating a sloppy joe without a napkin.
Quite a scary moment for the Quad4 I will say.
To the rest.... :finger:

Nice review, and the header looks pretty hot in there! Power gains look minimal, but torque gains look nice throughout the powerband :). Does it sound any different seeing as how the engine breathes better now?

Yes a little bit more hiss going on.
hp gain looks small, but look at the scale of hp compared to the scale on the torque side.
It amounts to 15hp and 15lbft to the wheels at 5500rpm.
My peak torque is now moved up to 5500rpm now instead of 7000rpm now. The power is definitely there, no doubt.

I am retarded :bloated: . Power gains definately look good now :). I hadn't thought about the scale when I was checking it out. A hissing sound is going on? Is that normal or is that something abnormal like a gasket that isn't tight enough?

Its the air flowing thru the header (thinner metal than the stock 300lb header ;))... and some of the noise from not having the dipstick in I'm sure. :)

I have a stock exhaust, but I'm ordering an Apexi World Sport exhaust this week and a high flow cat pretty soon as well so I can really free things up.
Yes the header is ceramic, I'm not fond of purple stainless headers. Most people don't realize that stainless headers are nice and shiny.. for about 500miles, then they discolor like mad and look nasty.
:jump: I'm thrilled with this thing :jump:

Question about the install...
I am interested about doing it myself, but I don't have a pit, and was wondering if it would be possible for me to complete the install with just a jack, or does that not give me enough lift to fit the header under the car?
Thanks

yes, you can do it with jacks, but it will probably take longer since you cant move as easily, get better grips on rachets etc. You should be able to slide the header under the car and up without a problem.

Ok, so Im stuck. Which should I do first. I only have money for one or the other. Should I get new pipe 2.25" back from the cat, and a muffler, or should I get Headers and a muffler? Which do you guys think is gonna give me a more noticable gain in HP and torque? If I get the exhaust now the headers will come next month and vice versa but I wanna get the one thats gonan give me better gains first.

A header is gonna give you better gains than a muffler/exhaust. So I guess you'd want to do a header. Hell, you might as well order the header and then wait till you order the exhaust and slap them on at the same time. I planned to do that, but I got a bit antsy.
