I need an expert

I am the owner and the only driver of my 1995 3/4 ton Chev Desiel Suburban, my milage reads 248000 kms. Amonth ago apparently the thermostate stuck, in which case over heated my engine and blew the head gaskets. I took this truck to a desiel repair shop locally owned and for a fair price, the engine was repaired needing new heads, gaskets and a few other things. The whole process took a month and cost me $3900. Today they called to say it was finished, I paid them in full and left with my truck which seemed to run fine. Not a mile down the road I started to hear a whirling noise. Like a button on a string. I told my husband about it when I got home, so he took her for a spin, then returned to the shop it was repaired at. Knowing enough about these things, he told the guy who fixed it that the turbo was making noise which it had never done before. The owner of the place insisted that turbos make noise, insisted we try it, which meant to him that the guy is unwilling to look at it again. Tommorow, I myself will drop by this shop and tell them once again, since I have been the sole driver that it did not ever make that noise before dropping it off with them. Hubby thinks I'll be told to go away. I think they a least owe me a test drive and a look to see if it's something simple.

Hubby has come to the conclusion that they damaged the turbo removing it or replacing it and because of it's cost, do not want to repair it. Also saying for all the repair guy knows, it was shot when we brought it in to be fixed in the first place, and thinks we may be shisters looking for a free turbo. He also said that the only action he can see is in court.

I'm going to stay possitive in hopes that the shop is willing to look at it and may find the problem to be easily fixed. Hubby doubts this very much, and believes the sound to be from a damaged fan blade of the two contained in the turbo, wheather it be from mishandling or damaged by what he calls crap they might have got in it when it was removed.

Please feel free to comment on anything I've said so far. I'm not sure what I will do if they turn me away as Hubby says was clear to him, but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Advice Please!

Well, it would seem to me that if it has never made any such noise before and there is actually a problem that develops then the shop is legally resonsible to fix it. Although i dont think you can get anywhere just because of a noise, unless something more develops you may just have to live with it. I would say the only way the mechanic can be forced to fix it free of cost would be if you can some how prove that something was damaged during the repair job. If you take something to be fixed and comes back with a different problem than before, they should fix it free of charge with out you having to threaten court action. However just going on a new noise isnt enough to get much resolve from. Also take into consideration that it could just be something to do with the new parts istalled that may not be correct instead of something else damaged.

Hey thanks for the quick response Silverado. Just checking in for pointers here before I head in. Oh it's not just a noise. It's the sound of my turbo widing up and down. Sounds like hell, no way I would have ever missed that. Absolutly has never made that noise before and it's a big one. Too bad all this crap is comming down on the Suburbanator. I really do love that truck and did everything to get it fixed. Hubby has been wanting to get rid of it for a while now. During the years we've had it we sunk nearly 15000$ into her, heavy duty trans, injectors,etc... Other than the trans, she has always been worked on at the stealership, wishing now I woulda took it there.
