Low Engine Temp

I just bought a 97 Jimmy SLE, and have a concern with the engine temperature. I drove the truck for about half an hour, and the engine temp would not get above approx. 120 deg. The heat also never gets really warm. It warms the car, but just enough to be comfortable. My ex-girlfriend had a 96 blazer that did the exact same thing. Any advice on what the problem might be and how to fix it would be appreciated.

Sounds like your thermostat is going out. Pretty inexpensive part...guessing between $15-25. Not sure where it'll be located...but the works at a garage shoudl run you $60 tops

Check your antifreeze to water level mix. Should be 50/50. Just as it prevents freezing, too much antifreeze will not let your car heat up properly. And of course too much water makes it get too hot. You can tell the difference when it is not mixed properly. You can get one of those coolant level testers for a few bucks at any auto store.

Thanks a lot... I'll replace the thermostat and check the antifreeze. Do you think it could also be the mechanical clutch fan staying engaged? Thanks

Replace the thermostat and gett your cooling system and heater core flushed and filled with new coolant.
