I have a 2001 Chevy silverado 4 door extended cab 4x4. The transmision went out at 162000 miles had new one put in. Well since then if I drive the truck a while and kill it while getting gas it wont do anything not even make a noise at all when i try to crank it. All the dash lights are on but it won't start. Ican jumpstart it by crossing the starter hot post, but thats the only way it will start. If i let it sit all night i dont have any trouble starting it. If I drive just short around town trips it gives me no problems. Ihad the dealer look at it twice but they found nothing. I had them put an ignition switch in also. Thought the problem was fixed but the first long trip I took it did it again. I travel for work so this is really irritating. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? By the way it has the 6.0 litre vortec and push button 4 wheel drive if that makes any difference. thanks zedd

two things i would check
1 you said you had the trans done so the next time the no start happens i would turn the key to the run position this will allow you to the put the gear selector to neutral the while in that position try to start the truck.
if you have a test lite connect to the small wire to the solinode this will confirm that power is or is getting to it
howerever i the the neutral safety switch is heating up and going bad or missadjusted if this trany has that style of switch

well i did the neutral thing didnt get no response from that . i just had someone check out the neutral switch and make sure it is aligned properly. i think its heating up somehow. can that cause it not to start?
thanks for the reply. im not a mechanic but our shop that takes care of all of our trucks is doing the work but they say they cant find a problem.

Yes The Heating Up Switch Can Cause It Not To Work I Forgot To Ask Will The Try To Crank I Will Ask My Trany Buddy For Ideas That I Cannot Think Of Tomorrow At The Shop And Did You Try The Test Light!! Because The Starter Solinode Can Also Heat Up And Not Work

If That Small Wire Gets Power When The Key Get Turned The Start Position { The Test Light Should Lite Up If Power Get To The Small Wire } The I Would Say The Coil In The Starter Solinode Has An Open In It Causeing No Click Sound And No Start.this Could Have Been Caused By The Removal Or Age Of It.[check The Wire At The Starter Small One That Will Tell A Lot Of What Engine Is Telling Ya Do This When Hot And Won't Start}
